Sheffield Teaching Hospitals pilots Tetra theatre scheduling platform

November 18, 2025

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is currently piloting the Tetra platform within orthopaedics, to help theatre teams plan and fill elective surgery lists more efficiently using data-driven predictions.

Orthopaedics accounts for a significant proportion of the national elective backlog, with procedures that vary widely in duration, case-mix and resource requirements. As a result, orthopaedic theatre lists are particularly sensitive to disruption and planning inaccuracy, making them a common focus for elective recovery initiatives across the NHS. At the same time, when delivered efficiently, orthopaedic activity is often a key contributor to trust income, given its scale, tariff structure and reliance on high-throughput elective pathways.

The pilot forms part of Tetra’s broader work with NHS partners to explore how data-driven planning tools may support elective surgery scheduling in real-world hospital settings. Tetra is working alongside local clinical and booking teams during the pilot period.

Tetra would like to thank Sheffield Teaching Hospitals’ clinical, theatre and booking teams for their openness, time and collaboration throughout the pilot phase.
